BC Trails Day x Dig Day with Hillbilly Hustle 50k
09:00 – 13:00
In celebration of BC Trails Day—a province-wide movement dedicated to caring for our incredible trail systems—we are hosting a special dig day sponsored by Hillbilly Hustle 50K. BC Trails Day is all about celebrating the outdoor spaces that help us stay healthy in mind, body, and community spirit. By coming together, we can ensure these trails continue to be enjoyed by all British Columbians for years to come.   🛠️ NMBC Dig Day – Westwood Trail Work: Legalize it 📍 Location - Arbot Rd Parking Lot 🤝 Sponsored By Hillbilly Hustle 50K We’re proud to have Hillbilly Hustle 50K backing this dig day. The Hillbilly Hustle was the pandemic brainchild of Vancouver Island local, Jason Wright. The original race brought together the Nanaimo trail running community following multitudes of race cancellations. The world went quiet with unease and uncertainty, but the Hillbilly Hustle grounded us with an inkling of normal through a virtual community and common athletic pursuits. With the help of Jay's friends, the Hillybilly Hustle lives on as an in person race utilizing the extensive trail network of our local mountain, Te'tuxwtun (Mount Benson). 17k, 35k, and 50k in person races will be available to all those up for the challenge. Their support helps make it possible for our community to come together, give back to the trails, and contribute to the long-term sustainability of Nanaimo’s riding network. They’ll also be providing limited-edition dig day t-shirts for volunteers on the day. 🍕 Pizza and food will be provided on site 🌲 About the Day Join us in the woods. Whether you’re a seasoned builder or a first-time volunteer, dig days are a great way to give back to the trails and connect with the local riding community. 🌦️ Weather Policy We dig in the rain, but not in atmospheric rivers. Light rain is part of the Island experience, but if a major storm or high-wind warning is in effect, we’ll postpone. If you don’t hear from us, assume it’s on — bring your rain gear and we’ll see you there. 🧰 The Details Meeting Point: See location above Safety First: Quick briefing + project plan before starting No Experience Needed: Lead builders will guide you Duration: 2–4 hours Tools: All provided by NMBC 🎒 What to Bring Durable, closed-toe boots + clothes you don’t mind getting muddy Warm layers + rain gear Water + snacks Bug spray Phone ⚠️ Waiver Please ensure your NMBC waiver is completed before attending.
